Do it, change it, hold it, wait, do it, cancel it, do it again

The past two days at work have been enough to drive me crazy, which is one reason why tonight I was so looking forward to joining Ian and his Best Buy pals to celebrate his exodus from the Blue Shirts and Geek Squads and on with his pastry career. The cool refreshing feeling of an On The Border margarita giving me a gentle buzz at the end of a long week surrounded by some of Ian's best pals would have been wonderful.

But... Ian and his work friends had lunch together before work and the combination of OTB food, Two pitchers of Margaritas and a final day's worth of work made Ian quite the sick ex Best Buy Boy.  So I'm lovingly letting him rest off the weary day and taking some time to caress my keyboard and losen my mind with you, the one or two people who might by chance read this.  Eh, it's good to get it out of my head, right? Damn right.

At work we are preparing to bring in this brand new bubble show.  I'm excited about it, really excited about it. It's from the producers of Wicked and the guy who created it is a 17 time Guiness World Record holder for making bubbles.  The show is really going to be quite spectacular.

Well, as is the case in show business, things change... Things change all the time. And what was supposed to be this grand 40 or so city tour across the country has now been shortened to TWO. Providence Rhode Island and Detroit, and the show played in Providence last week. There were to be two stops between Providence and us, but now those shows are off and the incredible gentleman who is performing has time on his hands and he and the tour would like him to get to Detroit as soon as he can to do some pre-show events. Go make bubbles, get people excited and the media to cover it and sell some tickets. If only it were that easy.

In the midst of this happening we also have been launching not one, not two, not three, but four different promotions all for a show that will play for six performances. Most of our shows are here for at least 8 if not 32 or more.  So I have been running all over town this week with ice cream (Bubble Gum Flavored ice cream!), cup cakes, our corporate "supergroups" as they're called, deal chickens, and Ticketmaster. And now - add in a promotional tour.

What's that you ask? We have agencies?  Well yes we do. However remember how the show only has SIX performances? It doesn't take much math to calculate that with only six performances, unless your ticket price is $300, there's not much budget.  And we need to keep our agencies focused on the things they do best... and leave a lot of the execution to us.  Having come from a theatre where I did everything without an agency, having them is like GOLD. They rock... and they have been helping and WILL help... it's just a lot all together going on at once.

It took some work, but today it looks like we arranged a visit to a Detroit school for next Friday, which should be a good day and time to get some media coverage, and if things work out we may get a Detroit area Military family event set up as well... but only the school event is confirmed.  In the meantime our promotions are kicking in and sales have increased.  I'm just hoping that these relationships we've developed with the promotions and the work we're doing for the show will all be for the latter good.  I believe it will.

And now I have a nice refreshing home made Ginger Ale, Rum & Bitters over ice to close out the night.
Oh God, what am I 72? Ginger Ale & Bitters??? (but it's really quite delicious!)
